The New Orleans Saints fired defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and defensive backs coach Ken Flajole after a disappointing season on that side of the ball.

“I personally want to thank Steve and Ken for their contributions during what was an unprecedented 2012 season,” Saints coach Sean Payton said in a statement. “Philosophically we are changing our defense to a 3-4 alignment and right now is the best time to accomplish this transition.”

It's unknown at this time who will take Spagnuolo's place in New Orleans. Spagnuolo joined the New Orleans' staff after former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams opted to go to St. Louis, which was before the Bountygate scandal broke.
