Todd Weiner, the starting right tackle for the Seattle Seahawks last season, signed a five-year deal on Wednesday with the Atlanta Falcons worth $17.5 million that includes a $5.5 million signing bonus.

The Falcons gave up 64 sacks last season and the Seahawks felt they could part ways with Weiner, 26, who replaced an injured Chris McIntosh last season and started 14 games. Weiner only started six games in his first three seasons with Seattle.
Despite a lack of experience, Weiner, who was drafted by Seattle in the second round of the 1998 draft, showed steady improvement and should help Atlanta improve its line play.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks appear ready to hang their hat on third-year first-rounder Chris McIntosh, who has missed significant playing and practice time in his first two seasons because of a contract holdout and injuries.
The challenge for McIntosh will be to improve his footwork in pass protection and stay healthy.
