The Reynolds' Seattle Trifecta

The Reynolds' Seattle Trifecta

For the Reynolds family, the city of Seattle just got a little more familiar. Assistant Head Coach Lance Reynolds served a mission there, followed by one of his sons. Another one of his sons will now call Seattle home after getting a call from the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks.

Assistant Head Coach Lance Reynolds came to BYU as a player in 1972. After the 1973 season, he took two years off to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Seattle, Washington. Following his mission, he came back to BYU to finish his college career. He was then drafted by the Steelers in 1978, making him the first returned missionary from BYU to play in the NFL.

Twenty years after returning from his mission to Seattle, Coach Reynolds’ second oldest son, Dallas, was also called to serve as a missionary in Seattle. Earlier today, Lance Reynolds, Jr., Coach Reynolds’ oldest son, found out that he too will be laboring in Seattle. In the case of Lance, Jr., who served an LDS mission to Little Rock, Arkansas, he will not be working in the mission field, but rather on the Seattle Seahawk’s practice field.

The Former BYU center signed a free-agent contract with the Seahawks making him the fourth Cougar senior behind Manaia Brown, Fahu Tahi and Vince Feula to sign as a free-agent since the close of the draft on Sunday.

Reynolds started his career at BYU as a linebacker, a position he played at Timpview High School, but then moved to center in 2003 during his sophomore season. The 6-foot-3, 293-pound Reynolds started at center during the past two seasons for the Cougars. As a senior, he earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors, and was named the Cougars’ top offensive linemen.

The senior helped anchor an offensive line that provided pass protection for the nation’s seventh-ranked offense, averaging 306.3 yards per game. During the first 10 games of the season, Reynolds ranked second on the team with 69.5 knock-downs, and recorded a season-high 16 knock-downs against Air Force.
