Adam Schefter of the NFL Network first reported that former Houston Texans quarterback David Carr has a visit scheduled with the Seahawks next week.
Houston’s first-ever draft choice and the first overall player taken in the 2002 draft, Carr has thrown for 13,301 yards, 59 touchdowns and 65 interceptions in 76 games. He has struggled with an inconsistent receiver corps and different versions of an offensive line that has conspired to allow Carr to be sacked 249 times in his five seasons.
Carr was waived by the Texans on March 23 after Houston signed former Falcons backup Matt Schaub to a six-year, $48 million contract with $7 million guaranteed.
The Raiders and Dolphins are also thought to be interested in Carr, and other teams might jump into the mix for his services as the bidding heats up next week.
Were Carr to sign with Seattle, he would most likely serve as the primary backup behind Matt Hasselbeck, who missed four games last season with a knee injury. That might have current backup Seneca Wallace playing wide receiver. Wallace signed a one-year extension with the Seahawks in mid-November of last year. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2007 season.
