Wallace Re-ups With the Seahawks

It's rare for the Seattle Seahawks to re-sign someone during the football season, so it comes as a mild surprise that backup quarterback Seneca Wallace and the team agreed to terms on a three-year deal earlier today. The deal pretty much guarantees that Wallace will be the backup to starter Matt Hasselbeck for the forseeable future and could portend a change in position should the team see fit.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported the deal early Tuesday afternoon and Scout's Adam Caplan confirmed the agreement shortly thereafter.

Wallace, who was a restricted free agent this past offseason, and the team agreed to the three year, $5.4 million contract after talks began to heat up this summer.

If he had not come to an agreement, Wallace could have become an unrestricted free agent once the season ended and he still may end up with that designation.

As Schefter reported, the contract increases his 2007 salary from $800,000 to $2 million and he would be due to receive a $400,000 roster bonus in March, but if the team declines to pay that amount Wallace would become an unrestricted free agent.

Last year, while subbing for an injured Hasselbeck, Wallace saw his most significant time as a signal-caller in the NFL.

The team won two of his four starts and he completed 58-percent of his passes for 927 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

He's widely considered the best athlete on Seattle's roster and there have been rumors that the coaching staff would like to use him in different ways to get him on the field.
