According to Adam Schefter
of the NFL Network, the Seahawks have placed the 2008 franchise tag on cornerback
Marcus Trufant. The two sides were allegedly not even close on coming to terms
for a deal so the franchise designation became virtually necessary to keep Trufant
who is considered one of the better cover corners in the NFL and at his prime.
Picked in the first round
of the 2003 draft (11th overall) by the Seahawks, Trufant has 356 solo tackles,
and 16 INTS (1 TD return). Marcus is from Tacoma, Washington and played college
ball at Washington State University.
After recovering from shoulder
injury, secondary coach Jim Mora moved Trufant back to his natural spot and
declared he has what it takes to be a shut down corner and that they needed
to get him "across the pond" (to the Pro Bowl), which occurred in
2007 when he was selected to his first pro bowl in his career.
