Seattle released rookie running back Justin Forsett and second-year wide receiver Jordan Kent to make room for Rocky Bernard and Jordan Babineaux, who were suspended by the league for the first game.
They also released punter Ryan Plackemeier, who had two 22-yard punts against the Bills and lost important field position for Seattle throughout the game. Seattle signed Jon Ryan to replace Plackemeier.
And on Wednesday, the Seahawks will announce that they signed receiver Billy McMullen, who last played with Washington and has experience in a West Coast offense.
Still, the signing of McMullen combined with the release of Kent leaves the Seahawks with only three receivers on their roster, as well as backup quarterback Seneca Wallace, who also can play receiver.
However, McMullen does not have NFL punt returning experience, leaving a high likelihood that Seattle signs yet another veteran receiver to step in at split end and perhaps flanker.
To make room for McMullen, the Seahawks could release Brandon Coutu, the team's second kicker who is a rookie from Georgia. If they sign another receiver, they could waive defensive end Baraka Atkins or Jason Babin.
The Seahawks would hope that Forsett and Kent clear waivers so they can place them on the practice squad, though both had strong preseasons and may spark interest from other teams.
--QB Matt Hasselbeck has a bulging disc in his back, though he said that had nothing to do with the time he missed in the preseason. He said that was due to unrelated back spasms. He also said the disc has not bothered him.
--RB Maurice Morris suffered a sprained knee in Sunday's game in Buffalo and will miss at least a week, perhaps more. Julius Jones will start in his place.
--TE John Carlson caught four passes in his NFL debut, but he also dropped a pass. With so many injuries, look for Carlson to have an equally successful day against San Francisco.
--WR Courtney Taylor dropped two passes against the Bills on Sunday and there is a chance he loses his starting job.
--WR Billy McMullen, who will be signed on Wednesday, will be the only receiver on the roster with any significant experience.
--DT Rocky Bernard will return from suspension and get back his starting job, sending Craig Terrill to the bench.
--DB Jordan Babineaux will return from his suspension and will be used as the team's nickel back, meaning Josh Wilson will become the dime back.
--LB Lofa Tatupu injured his thumb against the Bills. He sat out a series and came back to play the rest of the game. He will wear a soft cast this week against San Francisco.
--P Jon Ryan, signed by the team on Tuesday, punted for two seasons in Green Bay before being released in favor of Derrick Frost.
--K Brandon Coutu remains on the roster as a second kicker, behind Olindo Mare, though Coutu may be expendable once WR Billy McMullen or another receiver is officially signed.
--WR Deion Branch will do more in practice this week but will not be available for Sunday's game against the Niners.
