Gore, 49ers put one on Seahawks

Seattle was riding high last week after their 28-0 drubbing of St. Louis at home, but things came crashing down in Bay Area today as the San Francisco 49ers left the Seahawks beaten, battered and bruised following a 23-10 drubbing.

The 49ers used 207 yards from RB Frank Gore who had touchdown runs of 79 and 80 yards and a unspectacular yet consistent day from QB Shaun Hill to put Seattle away.

Seattle also lost it's leader when QB Matt Hasselbeck, trying to dive for touchdown as time wound down in the first half, was nailed in the back by San Francisco LB Patrick Willis. The veteran signal-caller tried to get up and come off the field, but nearly collapsed before he got the sideline and was immediately attended to by the trainers.

The diagnosis was bruised ribs, but the team should have a more detailed explanation tomorrow.

Seattle was unable to muster much of anything on offense early on, while the 49ers seemed to be playing at a faster speed.

After the Seahawks went three-and-out, the 49ers were able to drive 55 yards in 13 plays, ending when K Joe Nedney hit a 37-yard field goal, putting them up 3-0.

On their next possession, San Francisco got the first of Gore's two touchdown runs, a 79-yarder on the first play of their next drive and it appeared they would run away with the game, but Seattle held tough and got a 36-yard field goal from Olindo Mare, bringing the score to 10-3.

After the 49ers added another Nedney field goal, this one coming from 42 yards out, Seattle then went 70 yards in 11 plays before Wallace who subbed in for Hasselbeck hit RB Julius Jones for a one-yard touchdown pass, to send the teams into the locker room with San Francisco up 13-10.

Seattle kicked off in the second half and it didn't take long for Gore to strike again. On the first play from scrimmage, the talented running back went 80-yards for his second touchdown of the day.

Wallace was unable to muster much in the way of offense the rest of the game, missing several chances late to get a score, but the real story was the defense of the 49ers, who allowed just 283 yards including 66 on the ground while Seattle allowed 256 on the ground and 379 overall.

The Seahawks head home with a 1-1 record and will prepare to host Chicago, who are now 1-1 after beating Pittsburgh 17-14, next week.
