The Seahawks sign former University of Washington standout Louis Rankin to the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks made a few roster moves on Tuesday, including signing former University of Washington running back Louis Rankin to their practice squad.

Running back Devin Moore and linebacker Thomas Williams were released from the practice squad, leaving the Seahawks with one open spot.

After not being selected in the 2008 NFL Draft, Rankin (6-1, 205) spent most of last season on the Oakland Raiders' practice squad before being activated for the final three weeks of the regular season.

As a member of the Raiders last season, Rankin should be familiar with Seahawks' offensive coordinator Greg Knapp's system.

Rankin made the Raiders' 53-man roster this summer, perhaps earning that spot after his 45-yard touchdown run against the Seahawks during the preseason finale at Qwest Field, and had been serving as the team's fourth running back for the first two weeks of the regular season. With the Raiders dealing with an injury crisis at wide receiver, Rankin was released on Saturday to make room for Jonathan Holland.

Rankin had also been serving as the team's primary kick returning, gaining 108 yards on six returns with a long of 23 yards.

During his career with the Huskies, Rankin ran for 2,480 yards and 11 touchdowns and his 2,396 all-purpose yards rank 2nd in school history.
