The Seattle Seahawks finished the 2009 season at 5-11 and missed the playoffs for a second straight…
Johnson, Titans are too much for Seahawks
He actually never really broke free, posting a long run of 12 yards, while carrying the ball 36 times which was a career high. However, in the fourth quarter he appeared to be in the hunt for the season-record held by Eric Dickerson when he romped 62-yards for an apparent touchdown, but a hold call brought the play back.
Seattle was game much of the day, pulling even in the second quarter when TE John Carlson caught a six-yard touchdown pass after Johnson had scored a touchdown midway through the first quarter.
The teams traded field goals, with Seattle's Olindo Mare hitting from 35 and 20 yards out while Tennessee's Rob Bironas managed to make one from 47, but it was Johnson who was the different, plunging in from one-yard out with 4:33 remaining to give the Titans the lead.
Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck drove Seattle to the Titan 27, but was picked off by Tennessee LB Gerald McRath on fourth-and-nine to end their last-ditch effort to get the win.
Seahawks RB Justin Forsett had a solid day, rushing for 74 yards on 10 carries, while veteran Julius Jones chipped in 61 yards.
WR Deion Branch hauled in four receptions for 77 yards and T.J. Houshmandzadeh had three for 66, but it was Tennessee WR Nate Washington who had the big day, grabbing six receptions for 83 yards.
Seattle S Deon Grant had a game-high 10 tackles and recovered Johnson's fumble in the third quarter that set up Seattle's final points of the game while Tennessee was led by S Michael Griffin and LB Stephen Tulloch's nine tackles each.
Seattle will now look to free agency and April's NFL Draft in order to rebuild their team, but first they must hire a GM to take the place of Tim Ruskell who was fired midway through the season.
