According to ESPN.com, the Seattle Seahawks will meet with free agent quarterback Derek Anderson on Thursday.

Due a $2M roster bonus on March 19, and a $7.45M base salary in 2010, the Cleveland Browns terminated the contract of veteran quarterback Derek Anderson on Tuesday.

The Browns were always expected to release Anderson, but the transaction was expedited by Monday's acquisition of quarterback Seneca Wallace from the Seattle Seahawks for a late-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

By last night, Anderson had two free agent visits, including one with the Seahawks on Thursday, ESPN.com's Jamie Walker reports.

A sixth-round pick out of Oregon State by the Baltimore Ravens in 2005, Anderson was claimed off waivers in Week 3 of the '05 season.

Anderson (6-6, 230) showed promise in three late season starts in 2006, and replaced starter Charlie Frye midway through the season-opener, completing 56.5% of his passes for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl honors in helping lead the Browns to a 10-6 record.

Anderson lost his starting job to Brady Quinn midway through the 2008 season, and the two alternated at starter for the next season and a half, with health usually being the determining factor. (Anderson's 2008 season ended with a sprained MCL in his left knee.)

For his career, Anderson has completed 52.9% of his passes for 7,083 yards, 46 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. His career rating is 69.7.

Yesterday, Anderson lashed out at the Browns fans in an e-mail to The News-Herald, writing that "The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner. I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them."

Anderson apologized for his remarks in a statement released on Wednesday morning:

"I said some things to Jeff Schudel (of The News-Herald) earlier that I regret. Those of you who got to know me personally from covering the Browns over the past five years, know this was out of character for me. I wasn't taken out of context, but I was speaking out of my frustration after my career with the Browns came to a close.

"I had some great times playing in Cleveland, especially during the 2007 season and I met some great people and made many lifelong friends along the way. I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life."

Should Anderson leave the VMAC without a contract, he will met with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.

Both NFC West franchises are in the market for an experienced backup quarterback. With the trade of Wallace earlier this week, second-year quarterback Mike Teel is presently the top back-up to Matt Hasselbeck, while Cardinals starter Matt Leinart the only quarterback on the Arizona roster.

San Diego Chargers restricted free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst will also meet with the Cardinals this week. If the Cardinals sign Whitehurst to an offer sheet that the Chargers decline to match, it will cost them a third-round draft choice in the 2010 NFL Draft.
