Seahawks to Meet With Whitehurst
Whitehurst, a third-round pick by the Chargers in 2006, was tendered at the "Original Round" level, meaning the Seahawks would be required to compensate the Chargers with a third-round draft choice in the 2010 NFL Draft should they sign Whitehurst to an offer sheet that San Diego declines to match.
The Seahawks presently do not have a third-round pick this year's draft, so after reaching a contract agreement with Whitehurst, the Seahawks would then have to negotiate compensation with the Chargers.
Whitehurst would earn $1.176 million dollars under the one-year restricted free agent tender.
Usually designated the Chargers' emergency third quarterback on gameday during his four seasons in the league, Whitehurst has yet to attempt a regular season pass. The 6-4, 230-pound former Clemson standout does have 13 yards rushing, including a 14-yard touchdown run against the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 of his rookie season.
During pre-season action with the Chargers, Whitehurst is 104-of-197 (52.8%) for 1,031 yards, with 5 touchdowns and 7 interceptions for a passer rating of 61.5.
Whitehurst is also scheduled to meet with the Arizona Cardinals.
