Seahawks Reach 2-Year Deal With Chris Baker
Schefter reports the deal is worth $4.75 million dollars, with $2.75M paid in 2010.
Baker (6-3, 258) spent last season with the New England Patriots, starting 7 of 16 games and catching 14 passes for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
A third-round pick (88th overall) out of Michigan State by the New York Jets in 2002, the 30-year old tight end from Queens, New York has 159 receptions for 1,647 yards and 14 touchdowns during his 8-year career.
The signing of Baker is not a challenge to starter John Carlson.
Under new offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, the Seahawks are likely to employ more two-tight end sets, with both tight ends preferably being viable options in the passing game. Seattle's current back-up tight end, John Owens, is more of a blocker, while Baker (and initial FA target Watson) are known more for their receiving abilities.
