Inside the Seahawks Rookie Contracts

Brian McIntyre of NorthwestFootball.net takes an inside look at the contracts signed by the Seattle Seahawks 2010 draft class

Via a league source with access to NFLPA documents, here's an inside look at the contracts signed by the 2010 Seattle Seahawks draft class, and here's a quick breakdown

Player: Russell Okung
Pos: OT
Round: 1
Pick: 6
Overview: 6-years, $48.5M/$58M max

In addition to a $1.68 million signing bonus, Okung received a $2 million roster bonus and will earn a $320,000 base salary in 2010.

The Seahawks may elect to pay Okung a guaranteed $10 million salary advance after the 2010 season, which would reduce his base salaries to $900,000 (2011), $1.48 million (2012), $2.06 million (2013), $2.64 million (2014), and $3.22 million (2015). These base salaries are fully guaranteed, as is $5.5 million in easily attainable base salary escalators between the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

An additional $17.2 million in non-guaranteed base salary escalators are available in 2014 and 2015 that are tied to playing-time percentages and team/personal achievement qualifiers.

Okung has a $5 million one-time bonus which can be earned with minimum playing-time and a team or personal qualifier, and another $1 million in workout bonuses are available from 2011 through 2015.

Player: Earl Thomas
Pos: FS
Round: 1
Pick: 14
Overview: 5-years, $16M/$21.1M max
Guarantee: $12.32 million

Thomas received a signing bonus of $500,000, and in addition to his $320,000 base salary,r received a $1.18 million roster bonus this month.

The Seahawks may elect to pay Thomas a guaranteed $5 million salary advance after the 2010 season, which would reduce his base salaries to $625,000 (2011), $1 million (2012), $1.375 million (2013), and $1.75 million (2014), all of which are fully guaranteed.

Thomas has $5.45 million in non-guaranteed base salary escalators between the 2013 and 2014 seasons which are tied to playing-time percentages and team or personal achievement qualifiers.

Through minimal playing time, Thomas can trigger a $3.5 million one-time bonus in 2011, which would reduce his base salary guarantee in 2013, and void the guarantee in 2014.
