| Biography: |
2004: In 2003, the NFL (especially Donte Stallworth and Anquan Boldin) discovered that Ken Hamlin could hit like the devil – in 2004, the league discovered his skills in coverage as well. Hamlin improved exponentially in coverage in 2004, amassing 4 interceptions. When Michael Boulware was ready to join him at the other safety spot (replacing the oft-overmatched Terreal Bierria), Seattle’s secondary became a real force. Hamlin’s more well-rounded skills should pay enormous dividends in 2005.
2003: Started 14 of 16 games played as a rookie earning a place on Pro Football Weekly’s All- Rookie Team. Finished second on team with 96 tackles (Anthony Simmons 100) and totaled 10 passes defensed. Started all regular season games except Pittsburgh (11/2) and at Baltimore (11/23). Did not start playoff game at Green Bay (1/4/04), but saw time at safety and on special teams. Made first career start versus New Orleans (9/7) and totaled five tackles.
College Career: Hamlin left college following his junior season and touted as the best defensive player in school history since Steve Atwater (1985-88). A Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Year nominee, became the first player in school history to record more than 100 tackles in a season three times. Recorded 381 tackles (221 solo), breaking the old school career-record of 367 tackles by Cliff Powell (1967-69). Caused eight fumbles and recovered five, deflected 28 passes and intercepted nine while playing in 36 games.
As a redshirt junior, Hamlin was an All-American first-team selection by The NFL Draft Report and The Sporting News. Nominated for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the nation’s premier defensive back. Collected a career high 22 tackles (nine solo) versus Troy State. Only Cliff Powell (24) and Ronnie Caveness (23) had more tackles in a game for the Razorbacks. All-American second-team choice by The NFL Draft Report and All-Southeastern Conference first-team pick as a sophomore. Was a Freshman All-American choice by The Sporting News and Football News. Named to the SEC Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC teams. Became the first freshman and only the second defensive back in school history to lead Arkansas in tackles, posting 104 tackles (57 solo).
