2004:Trufant’s second NFL season showed his development, and spoke to his promise as one of the best young DBs in the league. Trufant maintained or increased every statistic in 2004, with a team-leading 93 tackles (84 solo), 5 interceptions, a sack, and 20 passes defensed. With Ken Lucas now in Carolina, Trufant is the bellwether of the Seahawks’ secondary. 2005 could be a career year.
2003: One of two rookies (S Ken Hamlin) to start on defense and make an immediate impact. Started all 16 games, the first five games at left corner with Shawn Springs out (shoulder) and the last 11 at right corner. Led the team with 20 passes defensed which tied for second in the NFC (T-5th NFL). Also collected 78 tackles (69 solo) with two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
College Career: Started at Washington State since early in his freshman year. Did not allow a touchdown reception in his last two seasons. Finished college career with 201 tackles (153 solo), five tackles for loss, eleven interceptions, and 49 pass deflections in 42 games. As a senior, was selected an All-American second-team pick by the Associated Press and First-Team All-Pac 10 Conference choice. Served as team captain and started every game at left cornerback. Finished the season third on the team with 74 tackles (59 solo). Also had three interceptions, deflected 13 passes and recovered a fumble. Returned 38 punts for 402 yards (10.6 avg.).
Was selected All-Pac-10 Conference honorable mention as a junior. Started seven games, missing four with a broken thumb. Recorded 37 tackles (31 solo) with three stops for loss, forced and recovered a fumble, had three interceptions, and seven passes defensed. Started every game at left cornerback as a sophomore, earning Player of the Game honors versus Stanford. Recorded 53 tackles (43 solo) with three interceptions and 16 passes defensed and a fumble recovery. Freshman All-Pac 10 Conference selection. Played in 11 games, starting seven of the final eight contests. Recorded 37 tackles (27 solo) with two interceptions and 13 pass defensed.
