THE PAC-12 EARLY-SEASON broadcast schedule is expected to be released sometime this week for games on ESPN, Fox and the Pac-12 Networks.
It will include TV assignments and kickoff times for the first three weeks of the season, and possibly the fourth, as well as a handful of games later in the season.
The bulk of the games and start times, however, will be in-season selections made in the 6-12 day windows before the game.
Last season the Cougs had half their schedule, six games, broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
Some of the Fox games this season could wind up being broadcast on a new channel, Fox Sports 1, an all-sports network set to debut in August.
SEVEN COUGS WERE named to pundit Phil Steele's preseason All-Pac-12 teams released this week.
S Deone Bucannon and K Andrew Furney were named to the second team, MLB Darryl Monroe, WR Gabe Marks and OL John Fullington were third team selections and WR Dominique Williams and return man Leon Brooks were on the fourth team.
FORMER COUG SAFETY Husain Abdullah is making a comeback bid with the Kansas City Chiefs after missing the 2012 NFL season when he made a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
Abdullah told Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star that it "weighed heavily" on him to make the trip while he was still playing.
"It's something Muslims are required to do once in your lifetime," Abdullah explained.
Abdullah, who played for Minnesota from 2008-11, made the trip with his parents and his two older brothers, including former WSU and NFL safety Hamza Abdullah.
"I see my parents getting a little older and sicker, and I was able to take them … it was a dream for them, and it was a dream for me, and to experience that together was awesome," Abdullah said.
THREE CURRENT COUGARS and one recruiting signee made Baseball America's list of the top 500 prospects for the June baseball draft.
Junior outfielder-pitcher Justin Monda is ranked 395th (as an outfielder), redshirt junior infielder-outfielder Adam Nelubowich checks in at No. 434 (as a third baseman) and redshirt sophomore shortstop Trace Tam Sing is listed at No. 458.
Layne Bruner, a left-handed pitcher from Montesano High School, came in 418th.
The draft will be held June 6-8. None of the four players with WSU ties are projected to go in the first 10 rounds.
SENIOR 400-METER RUNNER Shawna Ferrin will be WSU's only representative at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in Eugene.
Ferrin, one of 34 Cougars at last week's NCAA West Preliminary meet in Austin, Texas, came in eighth at 53.16 seconds. Top-12 finishers advanced from each of two national qualifying meets.
"We have a number of outstanding recruits coming … we will be a stronger team next year," longtime WSU coach Rick Sloan said.
KEY WSU RELIEF pitcher Kellen Camus will sit out the summer season with a bad shoulder, the Corvallis Knights announced.
The Knights, often ranked among the nation's best summer college baseball teams, still have two Cougars: outfielder Nate Blackham (who redshirted this season) and pitcher Jacob Schroeder.
FORMER WSU FORWARD Ivory Clark led Ironi Kiryat ATA of Israel with 7.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game.
Clark finished second on Ironi I-A, which plays in Israel's No. 2 pro league, with 13.0 points.
